Office of Biotechnology and Science

The Office of Biotechnology and Science provides an integrated focal point for work on health-related biotechnology within Health Canada, as well as within the federal government and externally. Health Canada is the federal department responsible for regulating biotechnology-derived products that are subject to the Food and Drugs Act and the Pest Control Products Act. In addition, it is responsible, with Environment Canada, for regulating biotechnology-derived products subject to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.

The Office also serves as a central point for science issues concerning the Health Products and Food Branch (HPFB), and is the lead office for the Science Library Network.
