Safe Food and Water Initiative: Microbial Contamination of Food and Water and Antimicrobial Resistance in the Food Chain - Phase II - Establishing a Framework

Results of the June 2003 competition

CIHR's Institute of Infection and Immunity (III) and the Institute of Population and Public Health (IPPH) in partnership with Health Canada, Environment Canada, Agriculture and Agri-food Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the National Research Council are pleased to announce the results of the "Safe Food and Water Initiative: Microbial Contamination of Food and Water and Antimicrobial Resistance in the Food Chain" competition.

The program was designed to lay a framework for the coordination of Canadian research on the microbial contamination of food and water and antimicrobial resistance in the food chain. The goal of the Request for Applications (RFA) was to promote the formation of new research teams, or the expansion of existing teams, in which academic and federal government funded researchers combine their skills and resources in order to more efficiently and effectively address specific research questions.

We are pleased to announce that 7 out of the 24 applications invited to submit an application for this competition were approved. Applications were reviewed by an ad hoc, multi-disciplinary peer review committee.
