Some birthday parties are so special you want to remember them forever. A new book capturing the highlights of the 2005 Centennial celebrations across the province lets Albertans do just that.

Alberta’s Centennial — a Celebration! features hundreds of full-colour photographs of Centennial events. The 200-page book covers everything from the Royal Visit by Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh to the many Centennial parties, parades, and homecomings held in communities from Grande Prairie to Granum. • the September 1 AlbertaSpirit celebrations and fireworks
  • vignettes from the Royal Visit
  • the travels of the Alberta Centennial Time Capsule

A major section of the book is devoted to photos of Albertans who came out to the AlbertaSpirit celebrations held September 1, 2005, in

  • Banff
  • Bonnyville

  • Fort McMurray
  • Grande Prairie
  • Lethbridge

The book also zooms in on communities that celebrated their own centennials in 2005, such as Olds, Camrose and Claresholm, as well as Albertans who turned 100 the same year Alberta did.

It also takes a close-up look at special Centennial projects by schools and organizations around the province.

Copies of the book will be delivered to every school and library in the province. It will also be available in bookstores throughout Alberta or online External link for $19.95 plus GST. Any proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
