Contaminated counterfeit TIGI Bed Head Moisture Maniac shampoo recalled, lot 10J11373

OTTAWA - Health Canada and TIGI Linea, L.P. are warning consumers not to use a counterfeit, professional use shampoo sold as TIGI Bed Head Moisture Maniac, Lot 10J11373, as it may be contaminated. The lot number is stamped on the bottom of each bottle. Recently, this lot of counterfeit TIGI Bed Head Moisture Maniac shampoo was found to contain Enterobacter gergoviae, potentially harmful bacteria which may pose a health risk to certain users. If the product contacts open wounds or gets in the eyes, infection could result.

The product being recalled is sold in a 12 fl.oz.(U.S.) 354.8 ml clear plastic bottle. Health Canada recommends that if consumers have this shampoo in their possession, they discontinue its use immediately. If anyone has this product with this specific lot number, please contact your nearest Consumer Product Safety regional office for information on its proper disposal.

The contaminated counterfeit product, not to be sold in Canada, pursuant to Section 16 (a) of the Food and Drugs Act, was found and removed from drug stores in British Columbia and Saskatchewan, and hair salons in the Greater Toronto Area by Health Canada Product Safety officers. At present, all known product has been removed from sale.

The full line of TIGI professional hair products is sold throughout Canada. This recall only applies to the counterfeit TIGI Bed Head Moisture Maniac, Lot 10J11373. The recall does not apply to legitimate TIGI Bed Head Moisture Maniac shampoo bearing Lot 10J11373 0354 15:07, or any other combination of numbers.

The contaminated shampoo was not produced or distributed by the legitimate owner of the TIGI registered trademark and is counterfeit.
