Undeclared peanut residues in Fantis Viennese Wafers

OTTAWA - The Health Protection Branch (HPB) of Health Canada is warning consumers allergic to PEANUTS not to consume Fantis Viennese Wafers filled with Cocoa & Hazelnut Paste, 400g can, Fantis Foods Inc., Carlstadt, NJ, Product of Greece.

This product contains peanut residues which are not indicated on the label and is distributed in Quebec, Ontario and Alberta.

The affected product is considered a health risk ONLY for those individuals who have an allergy to peanuts. There have been no reports of illness related to the consumption of this product.

The Canadian importer A. Fantis of Canada Ltd - with offices in Etobicoke, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec - has initiated a voluntary recall of all remaining stocks from retail stores. HPB is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

Consumers who wish to do so may return the product to the place of purchase.
