Undeclared sulphites in pitted dates

OTTAWA - The Health Protection Branch (HPB) of Health Canada is warning consumers sensitive to SULPHITES not to consume TROPHY BRAND PITTED DATES imported from Iran and sold in 350 g, 500 g, and 1 kg cellophane packages.

This product contains sulphites which are not indicated on the label. It has been distributed across Canada except for the provinces of Quebec, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.

The affected product is considered a health risk ONLY for those individuals who have a sensitivity to sulphites. There is no illness report related to this issue.

Consumers who wish to do so may return the product to the place of purchase.

The manufacturer, Trophy Foods Inc. of Mississauga, Ontario, has initiated a voluntary recall of all traceable stocks from retail stores. HPB is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
