Purilite disposable cigarette lighters fail safety tests

OTTAWA - Health Canada is warning consumers not to use Purilite brand disposable cigarette lighters.  Tests have shown that the lighters do not meet safety regulations as they can leak fuel after impact or exposure to elevated temperatures.  There have been no reports of injuries in Canada.

The importer is recalling the lighter.  Health Canada is monitoring the recall.  The lighters were sold across Canada, and may still be offered for sale in some stores.  The brand name, Purilite, is imprinted on the metal flame shield.  The label is marked "MADE  IN CHINA" along with the importer's name: "DANIALS WHOLESALE INC., MISSISSAUGA, ONT."

Health Canada advises consumers to stop using these lighters immediately and dispose of them in accordance with local laws.

Parents are reminded to keep lighters and matches out of sight and reach of children. Consumers may contact the nearest Health Protection Branch regional office if they have any  questions concerning this matter.
