Violence and Abuse
Violence occurs in various contexts including homes, schools, neighbourhoods and communities, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, class, ethnic background, religious or spiritual group membership, physical and mental ability or place of residence.
What Can You Do?
If you are being abused, have been abused, or know someone who is being abused, you can contact the following services in your community for help:
- Shelter or transition home
- Police department
- Victim services
- Crisis centre or crisis line
- Wwomen's centre
- Social service agency
- Health care centre, clinic or hospital
- Counsellor
- Community or family centre

What Information is Available?

Additionally, you will find information about the Government of Canada's Family Violence Initiative and the National Clearinghouse on Family Violence (NCFV) of the Public Health Agency of Canada. The NCFV is Canada's resource centre for information on violence within the family.
