Second-Hand Products & Garage Sales

Holding a garage sale is a convenient way to recycle second-hand products. In fact, anyone can have a garage sale. But did you know that everyone holding a garage sale is legally responsible for ensuring that products they sell, whether new or used, are safe and meet safety standards? Store owners selling second-hand products have the same responsibility.

The Hazardous Products Act, administered by Health Canada, has safety requirements for certain consumer products, many of which are intended for children. Remember, it is important to only sell items that are in good condition. Damaged items should be thrown away. Think safety!
