This section of the CIHR web page is aimed at keeping members of the Canadian and international health/medical research communities abreast of the various opportunities offered by CIHR, other Canadian organizations and international research funding agencies for supporting international cooperation.

What's New?


This section provides highlights on upcoming events and new collaborative opportunities for Canadians and their colleagues in other countries.

The Going Global Science and Technology (S&T) Program is specifically designed to promote and enhance Canada's international science and technology efforts. The program supports projects designed to bring together Canadian researchers to foster identified opportunities for collaborative partnerships with key players in foreign countries and provides assistance by contributing up to 50% of eligible expenses. Eligible expenses include travel, accommodation, meals, incidentals and other non-research expenses.

International Opportunity Program (IOP) - Development Planning Grants: Request for Proposals
CIHR announces the re-launch of the International Opportunities Program - Development Planning Grants. These one-time grants assist Canadian researchers to explore, develop and establish new international collaborations with foreign researchers. For this competition, additional funds are available to encourage and support applications related to pandemic preparedness. The Canada-HOPE Scholarship Progam
The HOPE Program aims to further develop international collaborative efforts between researchers.  The Program enables promising scientists and clinicians from Low and Middle Income Countries to be exposed to some of the best science, laboratories and training environments in Canada.

Summer Program in Japan
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) provides graduate students in health research with an eight-week research experience in Japan, an introduction to the science and science policy infrastructure in Japan, and an orientation to the culture and language.
