Parks Canada cares about our heritage!

November 2002
by Jacques Bernard - Youth Café (Montreal, Québec)

Parks Canada employs more than 4,000 people from sea to sea: in national parks, national historic sites, national historic canals, national marine conservation areas, administrative offices and service centres. The role of these employees is to help Parks Canada fulfill its mandate to preserve and showcase Canada's national heritage for present and future generations.

Parks Canada ensures that the wide range of Canada's human history is represented in its entirety within the national historic site network. The www.parkscanada.gc.ca site contains a list of 145 national historic sites which are under the administration of Parks Canada.

Canada currently has 39 national parks and national park reserves throughout the provinces and territories: on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, in the mountains of the interior, on the prairies, along the lakes of the Canadian Shield and the Great Lakes, and in the far north and south of the country.

For those who would like to work for Parks Canada, we offer many unique and challenging jobs as park wardens, interpreters, historians, conservators, management officers, planners, architects, engineers, general labour and tradespeople and office staff.

There are also jobs in administration, financial management, information services and personnel services. Most national parks and national historic sites have operational staff such as store clerks, labourers, tradespeople, equipment operators and general maintenance staff. These positions may be permanent, full time, part time, temporary or seasonal. Parks Canada also employs many students.

The Parks Canada Web site is full of useful information such as job descriptions, work locations and instructions on how to apply for a job in a field related to Canadian culture. You will also find all the information you need on special programs for students. If you care about preserving your environment and heritage, come join the Parks Canada team!
