Minister announces appointment to the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board

OTTAWA - Health Minister Diane Marleau today announced the appointment of Réal Sureau, FCA, of Montréal, Québec as Vice-Chair of the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB). As the newest member of the PMPRB, Mr. Sureau will be joining the current chair, Dr. Robert Elgie, as well as Board members Dr. Harry Eastman and Dr. Judith Glennie.

A chartered accountant by profession, Mr. Sureau is President of the Order of Chartered Accountants of Québec and has distinguished himself in his many years of professional practice.

In announcing this appointment, Madame Marleau recognized the significance of the PMPRB to pharmaceutical pricing policy in Canada and commended the current Board members for their hard work and dedication.

The Patented Medicine Prices Review Board reviews the prices of patented medicines to ensure that they are not excessive. The Board is a quasi-judicial review agency and has powers to impose fines and order price reductions in instances where prices of patented medicines are found to be excessive.
