Commissioner finds no evidence of improper destruction of records at Health Canada

OTTAWA - Health Canada today was informed by the Information Commissioner of Canada, the Honourable John Reid, that he has determined there was no improper destruction of records relating to rbST by staff of the department. The findings are contained in a letter from the Information Commissioner received by Health Canada today.

The investigation was undertaken following an allegation of improper destruction of records relevant to rbST by officials at the Bureau of Veterinary Drugs during the period October 23-27.

"I am pleased that the Information Commissioner has found that this serious allegation has no merit and has cleared officials of any wrong-doing," Deputy Minister of Health David Dodge said. "I believe that employees of the department have been, and remain, conscientious about their responsibilities with respect to information and records maintained by Health Canada."

"Health Canada and all its employees remain strongly committed to helping the people of Canada maintain and improve their health," Mr. Dodge said.
