Joint Message from the Minister of Health, Ujjal Dosanjh, and the Minister of State for Public Health, Dr. Carolyn Bennett

Seniors' Month

June is celebrated as Seniors' Month in many provinces and territories. As Minister of Health and Minister of State for Public Health, we encourage everyone to take this opportunity to recognize the significant contributions of Canadian seniors, celebrate their achievements, and reflect on their continued participation in all aspects of life.

The Canadian population is aging. Understanding the valuable social role of seniors and promoting their health and well-being will not only guarantee them a better quality of life, but will help ensure that Canadian society continues to benefit from their knowledge and experience. This is why the Public Health Agency of Canada works hard to promote healthy aging.

A recent Statistics Canada report entitled "Healthy Today, Healthy Tomorrow?" Findings from the National Population Health Survey provides key information on the major contributors to healthy aging. Its conclusions support activities of the Public Health Agency of Canada in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, medication use and injury prevention.
