Statement by A. Anne McLellan

Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Edmonton West
EDMONTON - It is with great sadness that I learnt of the death of Barb
Tarbox. I first met Barb when she came to Ottawa to speak with young Canadians about the
dangers of smoking. Despite her illness, I was struck by Barb's energy and determination
to meet and speak with as many young Canadians as possible. Barb was a fearless fighter
in our nation's campaign against smoking and her personal and powerful contribution will
not be forgotten.
In spite of the toll it took on her own health, Barb has left this country with a strong
message.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to express our sympathy to Barb's
family and friends, and thank them for sharing Barb's last months with all of us.
