As one of four federal partners under the Federal Initiative, CIHR-III administers the HIV/AIDS Research Program to fund meritorious research grants and personnel awards across the entire spectrum of HIV/AIDS research. In keeping with the intent of the Federal Initiative, the HIV/AIDS research program promotes Canadian research, which provides the scientific base for the development of effective HIV/AIDS programs and policy.
Six HIV/AIDS Operating Grants (5 Biomedical/Clinical, 1 Health Services/Population Health) were approved for funding through the regular Operating Grants program and these are included in the list of approved Operating Grants in the CIHR Open Competition. The table below indicates the total number of HIV/AIDS applications received in the Priority Announcement, those approved through the CIHR Open Competition and the number of additional applications approved under the HIV/AIDS Research Program in the September 2004 Operating Grants competition and the October 2004 Research Personnel competition.
