![]() Media Technical Briefing on Road SaltsAugust 10, 2000 Although snow is the farthest thing from the minds of most Canadians at this time of year, the federal government is about to release a scientific assessment report on the toxicity of Road Salts. To give journalists a solid understanding of this environmental issue, Environment Canada is inviting members of the media to a technical briefing on the science behind the assessment of Road Salts under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.
Road Salts were added to the second Priority Substance List (PSL 2) in December 1995, and scientists from Environment Canada have completed a five year assessment of the substance. The report, and additional background material will be available to journalists at the technical briefing. To members of the media outside the National Capital Region (NCR), you are invited to participate in the briefing via telephone. Please call (819) 953-4397 to register. Copies of the Assessment report, the News Release and other information will be available on Environment Canada's Internet site at 12:00 (EDT).
