Government On-Line Initiative

The Next link will open in a new window Government On-Line (GOL) initiative came about as a result of the Government of Canada commitment in the October 1999 Speech from the Throne to become a model user of information technology and the Internet by 2005. The goal was to be known around the world as the government most connected to its citizens, by enabling Canadians to access key government information and services on-line at the time and place of their choosing, and in the official language of their choice. Health Canada, as did other departments and agencies, established itself accordingly to respond to the Treasury Board led initiative.

Departments were required to report annually on the progress of their GOL activities and to post these Government On-Line Public Reports to their respective Web sites. Strengthening On-Line Results at Health Canada is the fourth Public Report prepared by Health Canada's Government On-Line group. The Report sets out the Department's Vision and Mandate and communicates the public face of some of the content of its Government On-Line Departmental Plans. It highlights progress made to date and identifies for Canadians what on-line capabilities they can expect to see by December 2005.
