Pan-Canadian Health Human Resource Strategy: 2004/2005 Annual Report

Health Human Resources in Canada

The term "HHR" encompasses all those involved in the delivery of health care such as physicians, nurses, technologists, and the wide spectrum of other health care providers.

These human resources are the health care system's greatest asset. Canada's ability to provide access to high quality, effective, patient-centred and safe health services depends on the right mix of health care providers with the right skills in the right place at the right time.

With respect to HHR, Canada faces a number of challenges in terms of the supply, mix, distribution, retention, recruitment and training. In response to these issues, the Strategy seeks to secure and maintain a more optimal and stable health care workforce.
