Employment at Health Canada
Health Canada is a science-based Department with about 10,000 employees spread out in offices and
laboratories across Canada and has three program activities:
- health care policy,
- health promotion and protection, and
- First Nations and Inuit Health.
To support these activities, Health Canada hires people specialized in health-related fields and
pure and applied sciences. Although Health Canada focuses on sciences, we also employ people in other
disciplines such as computer science, economics, administration, finance and social sciences, to
ensure the management and coordination of the whole organization.
As an equal opportunity employer Health Canada also strives to achieve a workplace that is representative
of the Canadian workforce and of the people we serve. The Department embraces diversity and inclusiveness,
and is committed to fairness, transparency and access. We encourage members of the following employment
equity groups to apply and to self-identify : women (especially in occupational groups where they
are under-represented), members of a visible minority group, Aboriginal peoples and persons with
a disability.
