Health Impacts Bureau

The Health Impacts Bureau is responsible for policy development and coordination activities related to Safe Environments Programme issues, and for developing and sharing knowledge on environment and health linkages. The Bureau also works closely with government and non-government partners to:

  • Advance understanding of the health impacts of climate change and provide advice on best practices for adapting to a changing climate;
  • Provide knowledge and information on the health component of environmental assessments conducted under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act;
  • Promote better understanding of the special sensitivity of children to environmental threats and action to reduce their impact on childrens' health;
  • Provide expert support and advice to federal departments on federal contaminated sites that pose the greatest potential risks to human health and the environment; and
  • Provide environmental health related advice on regional ecosystem initiatives and work to address environmental health matters within those regions.
