Welcome to the fall 2002 edition of our NIHB quarterly newsletter. We are now in our fourth year of operations as the claims processor for the NIHB Program of the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) of Health Canada.

Fall 2002 Updates to the NIHB Drug Benefit List (DBL)

Please find attached the fall 2002 updates to the NIHB Drug Benefit List (DBL). The update lists all changes to the April 1, 2002 NIHB DBL. It includes additions, replacement DINs, limited use benefits, drugs removed from the Canadian market and discontinued drugs effective October 1, 2002.

The revised NIHB DBL as well as the updates can be downloaded online at the following Internet address:

New Warning Messages : W81 and W82

You will notice the following warning messages upon submitting claims via POS as well as on your NIHB Pharmacy Claim Statement for each claim line:

W81 - Client has provided consent
W82 - Client has not provided consent

Note: W81 is transmitted as CPhA Code HG and W82 as Code HH.

You are not required to act upon these messages as they are for information purposes only.

New Pseudo-DINs for Blood Glucose Supplies and Condoms

The following new drug item pseudo-DINs have been created to facilitate the submission and payment of claims:

99401061 Freestyle Glucometer
99401062 Freestyle Test Strips
99401063 Freestyle Lancet
99400786 Condom, Non-Latex, Lubricated

Please ensure claims for these items are submitted with the correct DIN.

Paper Claims

On all paper claims submitted for processing, providers are reminded to indicate their FCH Provider Number and full pharmacy provider name. The correct provider number is indicated on every correspondence mailed out by FCH and FNIHB.

In addition, the prescriber's name and his/her billing/license number must also be clearly indicated on all paper claims.

Failure to do so will result in the claim being returned for completion.

Attached are replacement pages for your NIHB Pharmacy/MS&E Provider Information Kit (PPIK). Please remove the existing pages and insert the revised ones.
