Notice regarding oxygen benefit providers - July 2004

What is the purpose of this notice?

The purpose of this notice is to provide you with important information regarding how oxygen benefits are provided under the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program.

Why is NIHB making this change?

Health Canada and Public Works and Government Services Canada have completed a tender to select oxygen providers in Manitoba , Saskatchewan and Alberta . The NIHB Program used this process to ensure First Nations and Inuit continue to receive quality oxygen benefit care and services. The attached appendix lists the successful oxygen providers for each service area in your province (see Appendix A).

What happens if my current oxygen provider is not on the attached list?

NIHB Regional staff will contact your current provider to arrange the transition to the # 1 provider for your service area . The equipment from your current provider will be replaced with equipment from your new provider. Clients are asked for their cooperation in allowing equipment pick up by your current oxygen provider and equipment set up by your new oxygen provider. There will be no interruption of service.

What happens if my current oxygen provider is on the attached list?

Service will continue as usual, clients need to do nothing.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during the transition period. If you have any questions, please contact your NIHB Regional Office at (306) 780-7007 or (306) 780-5340.
