Tents

It is not only camping tents that must meet the Next link will open in a new window Hazardous Products (Tents) Regulations, but also tent-like products. These include, but are not limited to play tents, ice fishing tents and gazebos and enclosed dining shelters made in whole or in part of fabric or other pliable materials.

  • Gazebos and dining shelters - Gazebos and dining shelters are used for shelter from the elements and from insects. Models subjects to Hazardous Products (Tents) Regulations include units with detachable side panels or partial side panels, as well as single unit gazebos with full walls.
  • Play tents - Play tents act as a shelter for the entertainment of children and consist of elements that partially or fully enclose a child. These products do not always look like traditional tents. They are available in different shapes including cylinders, cubes, spheres, and combinations of different shapes.

Tents and tent-like products can burn when exposed to flame and heat sources such as camp fires, outdoor fireplaces, barbeques, candles, torches, or fuel-powered heaters. The Hazardous Products (Tents) Regulations specifies methods to test the flame resistance of tent materials and also specifies labeling requirements.
