Family Orders and Agreements Where do I get information about family orders and agreements?Under the Canadian legal system, the enforcement of family financial support orders is primarily a provincial responsibility. In cases where there is failure to comply with these family orders, the federal government has provided enforcement tools to the provinces through the Department of Justice Canada’s Family Orders and Agreements Enforcement Assistance Act
(FOAEA Act), which aids provincial and territorial enforcement agencies in:
- tracing of debtors in default of support orders and agreements,
- garnishment of certain federal monies payable to debtors, and
- denial of federal licences (including passports) from individuals in chronic default of support obligations.
