Purple Ribbon Campaign Where can I find information about the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women's Purple Ribbon Campiagn? The PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women Purple Ribbon Campaign Against Violence commemorates the 14 women who died in the Montreal Massacre on December 6, 1989 and raises awareness about violence against women and children in PEI. The Campaign theme is First Mourn, Then Work For Change!
Purple ribbons are pinned to cards that include current PEI statistics on the numbers of women and children that use support services through Transition House Association. Through the support of the Premier''s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention, the Advisory Council distributes over 22,000 purple ribbons and information cards in french and english across PEI to schools, government offices, community organizations, and individuals. Islanders are urged to wear a purple ribbon during the week of December 6th and also asks that Islanders make a donation to local organizations working to end violence.
