- Assessment of Canadian Business Opportunities under the Basel Convention
Canada became an official Party to the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal on November 26, 1992, with the introduction of the Export and Import of Hazardous Waste Regulations under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, (CEPA).
This report presents the results of a consultative study to identify existing and potential business opportunities for Canadian environmental firms, and develop a strategy to enable Canadian access to these opportunities. Available from Environment Canada Selected Publications (1-800-734-3232)
- CETAC Advancing Technologies for Environmental Performance - Canadian Environmental Technology Advancement Centres (CETAC) Performance Report 2002
The three Canadian Environmental Technology Advancement Centres are private sector corporations operating at arm's length from government. They provide a wide range of services related to company financing and management, as well as the development and commercialization of environmental technologies and products. This report highlights some of the Centres' main activities in recent years. It also details the performance and spinoffs of the program's activities, and contains success stories of companies across Canada that have benefited from the support of the CETACs in the past. - Improving Food and Agriculture Productivity - and the Environment: Canadian Initiatives in Methyl Bromide Alternatives and Emission Control Technologies
This report examines some of the research and commercial successes in finding alternative approaches to methyl bromide use in two sectors of Canadian agriculture: greenhouse operations; and the grains, cereals, and milling sector. In some instances methyl bromide was replaced. In other cases, methyl bromide is still needed, but its use has been minimized.
