Pest Management Regulatory Agency
The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) is responsible for protecting human health and the environment by minimizing the risks associated with pest control products.
The Agency carries out its responsibility by:
- evaluating pesticides to ensure they meet the latest human health and environmental safety standards before being registered for use in Canada;
- re-evaluating older pesticides to ensure they remain acceptable for use based on the lastest standards; and
- setting the safe residue levels for pesticides in food.
The Agency collaborates with Environment Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and other organizations in environmental pesticide research and monitoring, including sustainable pest management.
