EXPIRED - Memorandum of Understanding for Environmental Protection Through Action Under CCPA Responsible Care® With The Canadian Chemical Producers' Association (CCPA)

Introduction

The current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with the Canadian Chemical Producers' Association (CCPA) in 2001 will expire on December 31, 2005. In addition to the CCPA, this MOU was signed by Environment Canada, Industry Canada, Health Canada and the Provinces of Alberta and Ontario.

A new proposed MOU has been negotiated. The objective of the new MOU, like the previous one, is to reduce the release of chemical substances through voluntary, non-regulatory action under the CCPA Responsible Care® program. Signatories to this new proposed MOU include the CCPA, Environment Canada, Health Canada, Industry Canada and the Provinces of Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia.

The development and management of the MOU is carried out by the multi-stakeholder Environmental Protection Steering Group (EPSG) which includes representation of the signing partners plus the non-governmental organizations of STOP, Pollution Probe, Toxics Watch Society of Alberta and two members from the CCPA National Advisory Panel. The EPSG annually reviews CCPA member performance as well as future projection emissions reductions.

The renewed MOU will be in effect until December 31, 2010.
