It all began on one wintery weekend in February 2001. Sixteen of us were brought together to a resort (!!) near the frozen shores of Lake Ontario in the Thousands Islands and were introduced to the project for the first time.
The project was ambitious and forward-looking? Our tasks were to facilitate online group discussions and generate ideas with youth volunteers (Virtual Youth Canada) from coast to coast in order to determine the framework and design of what would become known as youth.gc.ca. The logo, look and feel, categories and functionality of youth.gc.ca are our ideas, realized by the dedicated staff at Human Resources and Social Development.
We started as individuals, but worked as one in the end. While a great site was built, even greater friendships were born. This site is the fruit of our labours and the dedication of hundreds of volunteers.
