The Chemicals Control Division provides national leadership of the departmental program for the implementation of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA, 1999) with respect to the control of toxic chemicals in Canadian commerce. The Division is responsible for collecting data and developing use patterns of commercial substances for evaluation and management considerations; and developing and managing control measures for substances in commerce that have been, or are about to be, declared CEPA toxic. CCD’s work is organized under four themes: data gathering and controls implementation, ozone layer protection programs, PCB management programs, and CEPA toxics management for chemicals in commerce (controls development).
