Environment Minister Rona Ambrose delivers the opening address of the session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

Bonn, May 16, 2006 – Environment Minister Rona Ambrose, in her role as President of the Conference of Parties, delivered the opening address of the session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) calling on all countries engaged in the future dialogue to be innovative about the challenges ahead in addressing climate change.

"This meeting is the beginning of an important step to reshaping the future dialogue in the international effort to address climate change," said Minister Ambrose. "We have an opportunity before us to create an inclusive dialogue that will allow a sharing of information and best practices between all global approaches, but this is not without challenges. Each country's stage of development, levels and sources of emissions, vulnerabilities, adaptation needs and the make up of economies differ, but we must find ways to effectively tap all of the opportunities that exist, recognizing the diversity of circumstances, and, in the end work together to shape the future on climate change."
