Microbiology Research Division

The Research Division of the Bureau of Microbial Hazards studies the safety of foods with respect to infectious and toxigenic organisms, defines the conditions leading to survival, growth and toxin production of these organisms and recommends measures of control.

This Division also develops methods for detecting microorganisms, toxins, viruses, parasites and provides analytical assistance to other departments. In addition to research, the Division is responsible for the operations of the Botulism Reference Centre for Canada and the Foodborne Disease Reporting Centre.
