Official Language Community Development Bureau

The Official Language Community Development Bureau at Health Canada coordinates the implementation of Section 41 of the Official Languages Act (Part VII), which aims to enhance the vitality of official language minority communities (Francophones outside Quebec and Anglophones in Quebec) and to promote the use of English and French within the Department in support of linguistic duality.

The Bureau's responsibilities also include:

  • promoting and developing of partnerships with official language minority communities;
  • providing advice and guidance to Health Canada branches and regional offices to assist them in the implementation of Part VII of the Official Languages Act using a departmental-wide approach;
  • coordinating the preparation of the annual Action Plan and Status Report concerning the implementation of Section 41 of the Official Languages Act;
  • leading and integrating the efforts of the coordinators responsible for the implementation of Part VII of the Official Languages Act across the department; and
  • managing the funding (by means of contributions) allocated to activities and initiatives aimed at improving access to health services for official language minority communities, in accordance with the Action Plan for Official Languages.
