Biography of Dr. Sheldon

Dr. Robert S. Sheldon
Professor, Cardiovascular Research Group, University of Calgary

Dr. Robert Sheldon received a B.Sc. from Bishop's University, Lennoxville, Quebec, in 1969 and a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado in 1973. He did postdoctoral research at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England, from 1973 to 1976, and at the Department of Medical Genetics, University of Toronto, from 1976 to 1977. In 1981, after receiving his M.D. from the University of Toronto, he moved to Calgary where he finished his training in Cardiology and arrhythmia disturbances. He joined the staff of the University of Calgary Division of Cardiology in 1988, and practised at the Bow Valley Centre for a number of years before finally settling at the Foothills Hospital with an active practice in arrhythmia management.

Dr. Sheldon is Chair of the Cardiovascular Research Group and the Division of Cardiology at the University of Calgary. He has an active basic and clinical research laboratory dedicated to understanding the causes and treatment of fainting, which also studies the second-to-second regulation of heartbeats and blood pressure.
