Canadian Liver Foundation Note: This link to an external site opens up in a new browser window.

The Canadian Liver Foundation (CLF) was the first organization in the world devoted to providing support for research and education into the causes of liver disease. The Foundation actively supports and encourages doctors and scientists to pursue their objectives in the field of hepatology research across Canada. In addition, the Foundation addresses the needs of patients and their families and promotes awareness and a better understanding of liver diseases
among the general public.

Health Canada provided operational funding in 2001/2002 to the Canadian Liver Foundation for:

Bullet Question and answer manual on hepatitis C: a reference document for the national toll-free line and for telephone calls to chapters

Bullet Speakers' kits (one for adults and one for youth) on hepatitis C: used by CLF staff and volunteers when presenting at public forums, schools, patient support groups, and service clubs. These will help increase awareness of hepatitis C to at-risk groups, patients and the general public. The development of a youth module and a marketing strategy will enhance the ability of CLF staff and volunteers to provide services and deliver a prevention message to youth

Canadian Hemophilia Society Note: This link to an external site opens up in a new browser window.

The Canadian Hemophilia Society exists to improve the quality of life for all persons with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. The Society carries out the following activities: care - assuring access to optimum care and treatment; advocacy - speaking out to ensure the safety of the blood supply; research - supporting research towards improving the quality of life and finding a cure; education - keeping the community informed, and; support - building supportive networks.

Health Canada provided operational funding in 2001/2002 to the Canadian Hemophilia Society for:

Bullet Information and support sessions: to provide medical, financial and psycho-social information to persons from the hemophilia community infected with/affected by hepatitis C.

Bullet Information and referral service (1-800 toll-free line): to continue CHS's capacity to respond to requests from consumers, blood user organizations, community-based organizations and health care providers for information relating to hepatitis C.

Bullet Community needs assessment of members of the hemophilia community: to assist with future programming and initiatives.

Bullet Organizational development: to provide volunteers and staff with the skills and information to enable them to plan, implement and evaluate hepatitis C activities at the community level.

Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver Note: This link to an external site opens up in a new browser window.

The Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver (CASL) represents a multidisciplinary group of doctors, scientists and health care providers whose expertise focuses on the liver. The Association is committed to providing national leadership in all aspects of research, teaching and patient care as it pertains to the liver. Through research, education and advocacy, CASL seeks to eliminate liver disease.

The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse promotes informed debate on substance abuse issues and encourages public participation in reducing the harm associated with drug abuse; disseminates information on the nature, extent and consequences of substance abuse; supports and assists organizations involved in substance abuse treatments, preventions and educational programs.

Office of Canada's Drug Strategy Note: This link to an external site opens up in a new browser window.
The Office of Canada's Drug Strategy of Health Canada is the focal point within the federal government for harm reduction, prevention, and treatment and rehabilitation initiatives concerning alcohol and other drugs issues. Our efforts aim to prevent the use of drugs by those not currently using them, reduce the harm for those who use them, and promote effective and innovative treatment and rehabilitation for those affected by substance abuse.

Take a look behind the Canadian Strategy on HIV/AIDS and you'll find the collective work of thousands on the front line. Emphasizing the power of collaborative efforts, the Strategy grew out of extensive consultations with volunteer and community groups, First Nations, Inuit and Métis organizations, researchers, the private sector and academic community, professional associations, health and social care providers and governments - and, most importantly, with individual Canadians living with HIV/AIDS.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to the protection of society by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.

The Hepatitis C Society of Canada (HeCSC) is a non-profit, national voluntary health organization. The organization's objectives are to provide comfort and support to those who are infected with HCV, including family members or other members of the general public who have concerns about hepatitis C; to educate and generate awareness among Canadians about hepatitis C, its transmission, care prognosis and prevention; to promote research which will contribute to the reduction of hepatitis C, its prevention and/or cure; to seek fair treatment for all people living with and affected by hepatitis C.
