CHIRPP records reach half a million

In early December 1995, the 500,000th CHIRPP record was entered into the database by one of CHIRPP's data entry clerks in Ottawa.

All those involved along the way -- from when hospital staff hand the CHIRPP form to the patient or parent, until the information is included with other data in a CHIRPP Injury Report -- have helped make the CHIRPP database increasingly useful for research and injury prevention programming. It is the largest database for which primary data collection is done by the Laboratory Centre for Disease Control.

During the year and a half that I have been with the Child Injury Section, I have been impressed with the dedication and spirit of cooperation shown by everyone involved. Thanks to all of you.

Donna Sharkey, Acting Head, Child Injury Section
