Import Policy for Inedible Meat and Other Animal Products, October 1988

  • Summary: This is a 42 page historical document which details Canada’s import policies relevant to inedible meat and other animal products. This policy was first implemented in October 1988 and was frequently amended in response to the emergence of BSE in the United Kingdom. The document identifies individual countries and the products eligible to be imported and describes import requirements and inspection / entry procedures. In 1996 the CFIA undertook a formal review of all animal, animal product and veterinary biologics import policies and produced an updated integrated import policy for BSE which replaced this policy.
