National Office of Health Emergency Response Teams (NOHERT)

NOHERT's mandate:

Establish national criteria to ensure the development and delivery of Health Emergency Response Teams, known as HERT. Its goal is to train and certify Health Emergency Response Teams across the country, and to ensure that they are ready to be deployed on a 24-hour basis to assist provincial territorial or other local authorities in providing emergency medical care during a major disaster.

NOHERT's all hazards approach encompasses emergency medical response to natural disasters, explosions, or to major chemical, biological or radio-nuclear incidents. Each NOHERT team will have expertise in emergency medical care (triage, stabilization, evacuation, and patient management), mental health care and public health disaster risk identification, assessment and management.
