Theme: Glossary

Cervix:

Bottleneck-shaped base of the uterus secreting cervical phlegm.

Ovum:

Reproduction cell created and contained within the ovaries.

Fallopian tubes:

Two tubes no larger than a spaghetti and approximately 10 centimetres long that lead the ova from the ovaries to the uterus.

Female sterility:

Infection obstructing the Fallopian tubes.

Fertilization:

Meeting of the ovum and the spermatozoon, leading to a pregnancy if the fertilized ovum settles in the uterus and grows.

Ovaries:

Two small female organs producing the ova.

Ovulation:

Release of a mature ovum from an ovary.

Spermatazoa:

Reproduction cell created within the testes of males.

Sexually Transmitted
Infection (STI):

These infections may be transmitted with or without sexual intercourse (i.e., stroking and petting nay lead to transmission of an STI).

Testes:

Two oval male organs producing spermatozoa and sexual hormones.

Uterus:

Pear-shaped internal female organ inside which the foetus develops.
