Mandate
To assess and reduce the risk of foodborne, waterborne and enteric disease in Canadians through national surveillance and targeted special studies.
Objectives

To produce a uniform dataset on enteric, food and waterborne disease, incorporating both individual cases and outbreaks, and based on the use of standardized proforma for summarizing cases and outbreaks.

To determine the incidence of severe rotavirus infection in children admitted to Canadian paediatric hospitals and to determine the direct and indirect costs associated with severe rotavirus infections in these children, for subsequent inclusion in a cost-benefit analysis.
