A Message from Minister Dosanjh
National Hospice Palliative Care Week 2005
National Hospice Palliative Care Week takes place from May 2 to May 8 and is a time to help Canadians
better understand the issues surrounding end-of-life care.
The theme for this year's National Hospice Palliative Care Week is The Many
Faces of Caregiving.
It pays tribute to the millions of Canadians who provide valuable support and care for individuals
and families who are dealing with an approaching death. It also highlights the varied forms of caregiving
that are available to those approaching the end of their lives. Health Canada is proud to support
the activities of this week.
Health Canada is working with other federal government departments, the provinces and territories,
the palliative care community and its many other partners to advance a Canadian Strategy on Palliative
and End-of-Life Care. Our goal is to ensure that all Canadians have equal access to this kind of
quality care, when they need it.
As Minister of Health, I would like to thank the millions of caregivers who give so generously to
those who are living with a terminal illness or are nearing the end of their lives. The Government
of Canada recognizes your vital role in the health care system and your valuable contributions to
Canadian society.
Ujjal Dosanjh
