West Nile Virus

West Nile Virus, also known as West Nile Fever, West Nile Virus Disease or West Nile Encephalitis, affects wild and domestic birds and a variety of mammals including horses and humans. WN virus is a member of the Flaviviridae family, which includes the viruses responsible for Japanese encephalitis, St. Louis encephalitis and Yellow fever, all transmissible by mosquitoes. The Corvidae family of birds such as crows, blue and grey jays, ravens and magpies are particularly susceptible to illness and death from West Nile Virus.
