Rural and Remote Health Innovations Initiative

Rural Canadians are increasingly concerned about the disparity between health services available in rural or remote areas and those available in urban areas. In response to these concerns, Health Canada established an Office of Rural Health, which used a broad consultation process to develop a rural health strategy for Canada.

The Rural and Remote Health Innovations Initiative (RRHII) was administered in Atlantic Canada by the Population and Public Health Branch (PPHB) Atlantic as part of the Population Health Fund.

The Canadian Rural Partnership, which involves over 25 federal departments and agencies, has organized a rural team in each province to look for ways in which federal government departments can address rural issues and concerns. PPHB Atlantic was actively involved in teams in the four Atlantic provinces.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) Atlantic has completed its funding through this program.
