Since the Team's infancy,
it has encountered and overcome many bureaucratic hurdles
in an effort to become a rescue resource for Canada
and the International community.
On May 10, 2001, the Team gained United Nation recognition.
Recognition was given after the deployment exercise
which demonstrated the team's self sufficiency and rescue
capabilities. |

The exercise
was observed and evaluated by representatives
from many different agencies. They included a senior
member in charge of Coordinating UN Emergency
Response, US FEMA representatives, staff from
Canadian Federal and Provincial agencies involved
with emergency response and planning, representatives
from other Canadian cities, as well as local municipal
emergency planners.
It was clear to the observers and to the evaluators
that the Team abilities exceeded their expectations. |

The Vancouver team has
always been in the forefront. Not only have we trained
individuals from nearby municipalities, as well as individuals
from other Canadian cities such as Toronto, we have
recently hosted and trained an international team from
Taiwan. Our members have
even traveled abroad to train and expand the skill sets
of their members.
The Vancouver team has also hosted numerous members
from the Canadian military as well as members from several
federal agencies involved with emergency response and
planning. We are constantly upgrading and improving
our ability to respond to emergency situation. This
includes developing a national training standard.
