Land Forces Atlantic Area (LFAA)
Land Forces Atlantic Area (LFAA) is home to 5 CRPG and encompasses Newfoundland and Labrador. Its headquarters are divided between Halifax, Nova Scotia and Gander, Newfoundland.
There are 743 Canadian Rangers in 5 CRPG, located in 29 patrols or communities.
There are 266 Junior Canadian Rangers in 5 CRPG, located in 10 patrols or communities.
Rangers in 5 CRPG tend to be experienced woodsmen and fishers, like their peers on the west coast. They are involved in activites such as coastal patrols and aiding in emergency situations.
Because of the strong sea, army and air cadet presence in Newfoundland and Labrador, possible locations for the Junior Canadian Rangers Programme are limited. But those communities that are eligible for the JCR Programme have expressed a keen interest in welcoming a fun, practical, structured youth program for the younger members of their communities. The JCR Programme started in the Spring of 2000 and is very successful to date in this area of the country.
