Junior Canadian Rangers - Marksmanship Training

Due to the fact that hunting is a way of life for many Junior Canadian Rangers, the Department of National Defence decided to provide detailed instruction in the safe use of firearms and marksmanship by these young Canadians.

All Junior Canadian Rangers receive training in the safe handling and firing of the Daisy 853C Air Rifle. The importance of safety (including the wearing of safety glasses and ear defenders) is stressed at all times and Junior Canadian Rangers are not permitted to use the rifles until they have demonstrated sufficient awareness of the four vital acts of firearm safety.

Junior Canadian Rangers are only allowed to use the air rifles in the presence of qualified Range Safety Officers and only on the designated range. Air rifles are designed for both indoor and outdoor use, and the care or maintenance of these weapons is fairly straightforward. Some Junior Canadian Rangers also receive optional .22 calibre training in a few patrols and during summer training.
