The Canadian Forces Housing Agency (CFHA) was established as a provisional Special Operating Agency (SOA) of the Department of National Defence in October 1995. The Agency's mandate is to operate and maintain the portfolio of approximately 15,000 military family housing units (married quarters) at Canadian Forces bases and wings across Canada. This includes allocating housing to Canadian Forces members and their families, carrying out maintenance and repairs, administering the rent system and managing the housing assets on behalf of the Department. CFHA emphasizes repair and maintenance activities aimed at ensuring the immediate health, safety and security of married quarters occupants and at protecting the structural integrity of the housing units. Funds are distributed amongst Housing Management Offices on a pro-rata basis by portfolio size and condition in relation to others nationally, and on average occupancy rates at each site. The CFHA mission statement is as follows:
CFHA ensures that CF members and their families have access to
rental residential accommodation suitable to their personal circumstances
in a timely fashion and at any location where duty demands.
The CFHA vision statement is as follows:
All CF members recognize CFHA as the agent of excellence in meeting their housing needs.
