Vision



The NBCD directorate vision is to ensure that NBC defence is fully integrated into the force development, generation and employment processes, and that the CF can operate safely and effectively in an NBC environment. Furthermore, DNBCD will seek to lead its allies and the other government departments (OGDs) in the development of joint NBC defence capabilities by exploiting leading-edge technologies and doctrine.

Mission



The mission of the NBCD Directorate is to provide expert NBC support to operations and coordinate the development of joint capabilities to enable the CF to survive and operate effectively in an NBC environment.

Responsibilities



DNBCD is responsible to DGJFD for:
  • coordinating strategic-level NBC defence, including NBC Counter-terrorism (NBCCT) planning, advice and support to CF operations and exercises. These matters span DNBCD and J3 NBC responsibilities alike
  • developing joint NBC defence capabilities to enable the CF to survive and operate effectively in an NBC environment
  • enhancing joint interoperability with the US, NATO and other allies
  • developing, coordinating and promulgating joint NBC defence concepts, policy and doctrine
  • providing NBC specialist advice and information for DND
  • representing the CF/DND at national and international NBC defence and NBCCT, and for conducting NBC defence standardization functions under multinational and NATO arrangements and agreements
