BACKGROUNDJ7 Exercises (J7 Ex) was established by National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) to implement the strategic collective training plan (SCTP) for strategic-level collective training. J7 Ex’s authority is in accordance with DCDS Instruction 02/03, “Collective Training in the Canadian Forces”. J7 Ex has the responsibility to develop the evaluation and validation policy for the DCDS's strategic level collective training activities. Collective training is defined as, “training that prepares Force Generator elements to accomplish assigned strategic objectives in support of strategic-level military operations and Deputy Chief of Defence Staff (DCDS)-directed exercises and training activities involving single environment, joint or combined forces.” MISSIONJ7 Ex will develop, conduct and evaluate exercises as specified in the SCTP. ORGANIZATIONJ7 Ex is organized in three functional groups: Exercise Planning, Evaluation, and Logistic Co-ordination. View the organizational chart. STRATEGIC-LEVEL COLLECTIVE TRAININGJ7 Ex is responsible for the coordination of all strategic-level training activities involving the Joint Staff in National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ).
