BACKGROUND

J7 Exercises (J7 Ex) was established by National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) to implement the strategic collective training plan (SCTP) for strategic-level collective training. J7 Ex’s authority is in accordance with DCDS Instruction 02/03, “Collective Training in the Canadian Forces”. J7 Ex has the responsibility to develop the evaluation and validation policy for the DCDS's strategic level collective training activities. Collective training is defined as, “training that prepares Force Generator elements to accomplish assigned strategic objectives in support of strategic-level military operations and Deputy Chief of Defence Staff (DCDS)-directed exercises and training activities involving single environment, joint or combined forces.”

STRATEGIC-LEVEL COLLECTIVE TRAINING

J7 Ex is responsible for the coordination of all strategic-level training activities involving the Joint Staff in National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ).

Strategic-level training activities involving the CF are captured in four categories:

National
Information on domestic exercises, both military and civilian, involving Canadian Forces resources.
CANUS
Information on select Canadian or United States exercises involving Canadian and United States military and/or civilian personnel including any unclassified information on North American Aerospace Defence (NORAD) exercises.
NATO
Information on select NATO exercises involving the CF.
Other
Information on exercises that do not fall into one of the three aforementioned categories.
